The current champion Veronika Kudermetova withdrew from the tournament in Charleston

Russian tennis player Veronika Kudermetova, the 22nd racket in the world, has announced that she will not play in the upcoming WTA-500 tournament in Charleston (USA). The competition will be held from 4 to 10 April.

It should be noted that it was Kudermetova who won the tournament in Charleston in 2021. In the final of the competition, she defeated the representative of Montenegro Danka Kovinic with a score of 6: 4, 6: 2. This personal title was the first in the career of the Russian at the WTA level.

“Unfortunately, I will not return to Charleston this year. I have very fond memories of last season when I won my first title. I hope to see you next year, “Kudermetova wrote on her social networks.

Earlier, Kudermetova and Belgian Elise Mertens reached the final of the tournament in Miami (USA), where they lost to the tandem of Vera Zvonareva (Russia) / Laura Siegemund (Germany) with a score of 6: 7 (3: 7), 5: 7.
