Alcaraz’s 15-match winning streak at Grand Slam tournaments has ended
The 15-match winning streak of world No. 3 Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz has ended. This happened at the 2024 US Open, where Alcaraz lost to Dutchman Botik van de Zandschulp in three sets in the second round with a score of 1:6, 5:7, 4:6.
Alcaraz was eliminated in the second round of a Grand Slam tournament for the first time since Wimbledon 2021. After Carlos’ defeat, there are no Spanish players left in the men’s singles draw of the 2024 US Open. At the same time, eight athletes from this country started in the main draw of the tournament.
The Spaniards set a national anti-record in the 21st century: the previous time when not a single player from Spain made it to the third round of the US Open men’s singles draw was in 1999.
