Former world number three Austrian tennis player Dominic Thiem plans to retire in October this year after the ATP-500 tournament in Vienna. Salzburger Nachrichten reports.
The Austrian’s decline began in 2021 after a serious wrist injury that still bothers him.
The tournament in Vienna will take place from October 21 to 27.
30-year-old Tim is the winner of the Grand Slam tournament (US Open 2020). In addition, he has 16 more victories at ATP tournaments (including one of the Masters series in Indian Wells in 2019). He also played in the finals of the ATP Final Tournament twice: in 2019, he lost to Greek tennis player Stefanos Tsitsipas in three games (7:6 (8:6), 2:6, 6:7 (4:7)), and in 2020 – m lost to Russian Daniil Medvedev – 6:4, 6:7 (2:7), 4:6).
