Thanks to today’s victory in the match with the representative of Switzerland Victoria Golubich, 20-year-old tennis player Iga Schwentek from Poland will rise to the first place in the WTA rankings.
Now the world’s first racket is Ashley Barty, who recently announced the end of her career. In early 2022, Schwentek was ninth in the rankings, then won two WTA-1000 tournaments in Doha and Indian Wells and climbed to second place.
The victory over Golubich became for Schwentek the 21st in the season – it is more than anyone else, in the singles men’s and women’s categories this season.
Schwentek will become the best tennis player in the world when the ranking is updated after the Miami Open on April 4.
Iga Schwentek will be the first player from Poland to take the first place in the world rankings in singles. The 20-year-old tennis player will be the world’s 28th racket in women’s tennis and the youngest since 2010 after Caroline Wozniacki (also ranked first in 20 years).
During her career, Schwentek has won one Grand Slam tournament (Roland Garros 2020) and four WTA titles (Adelaide 2021, Rome 2021, Doha 2022, Indian Wells 2022).
