Greek tennis player Maria Sakkari lost to Czech Linda Noskova (28th racket of the world) in the second round of the WTA-1000 tournament in Doha (Qatar). Thus, she will leave the top 10 of the WTA rankings for the first time in 125 weeks, as she was unable to defend her points for last year’s semi-finals.
The match with Noskova, which lasted 2 hours and 16 minutes, ended with the victory of the 19-year-old Czech with a score of 3:6, 7:6 (7:2), 7:5. It is worth noting separately that in the second set, with the score 5:3, Sakkari had a match point on her opponent’s serve, and then she was unable to serve for the match.
Thus, Sakkari suffered her eighth defeat in a row in matches with opponents from the top 30. This is the longest streak of her career.
In the live rating, the Greek woman occupies 11th place. Sakkari entered the top ten of the ranking at the end of September 2021 and has not fallen out of it since then. Only Belarusian Arina Sabalenka (170 weeks) has been in the top 10 among active players longer than her.
