Today, March 17, the final match of the WTA-1000 tournament took place in Indian Wells (USA). The world number one from Poland, Iga Swiatek, defeated the world number nine from Greece, Maria Sakkari. The match ended with the score 6:4, 6:0.
The tennis players spent 1 hour and 8 minutes on the court. During this time, Iga Swiatek completed two aces, converted four out of seven break points and made two double faults. Sakkari has one serve hit, one double fault and one converted break point out of two earned.
The total prize fund in the women’s singles was $8.9 million. Previously, Maria Sakkari defeated Iga Swiatek three times in head-to-head competition: at Roland Garros, in Ostrava and at the WTA Final Championships (all meetings took place in 2021). The Polish tennis player was stronger than the Greek representative twice: in 2022 at tournaments in Doha and Indian Wells.
